When young people engage with statistics, they create stories that go beyond tables and charts. High school students from across Bosnia and Herzegovina have proven this with their work and ideas – transforming numbers into memorable stories.

The competition was organized within the EU-funded Twinning project “EU Support for the Further Development of the Statistical System in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” in cooperation with the beneficiary institution – the Agency for Statistics of BiH (BHAS), and with the support of the entity statistical institutes and the Central Bank of BiH.

We invited high school students to breathe life into numbers and tell the story of Bosnia and Herzegovina through official data – as they see and experience it. With the support of their teachers, students had the opportunity to explore data, work in teams, develop skills, and most importantly, give voice to the issues that matter to them.

Ten school teams from Banovići, Gradačac, Goražde, Kiseljak, Kalesija, Trebinje, Stolac, Busovača, Vogošća, and Bosanski Petrovac made it to the final round of the competition. Their creative video stories demonstrate in a mature, thoughtful, and responsible way how statistical data can be transformed into messages that are relevant and meaningful to all of us.

The final event will be held on 9 April 2025 in Sarajevo, at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel (Skenderija 1). Inspired by the European Statistics Competition, which brings together thousands of students under the auspices of Eurostat, our competition sends a clear message: “Statistics are not reserved for experts – they belong to everyone.” We are proud that through such open, dynamic, and knowledge-driven activities, BHAS demonstrates that statistics can be understandable and exciting – especially when they become a tool in the hands of young people.

The European Union remains a key partner to Bosnia and Herzegovina on this path – investing in statistics, knowledge, and the future.
