Strengthening Statistical Capacities – R Program Training Started
The Agency for Statistics of BiH, in cooperation with the National Institute of Statistics of Romania, organised a three-day training for local experts on one of the most important statistical programs for data analysis – the R program. The training took place on 18th, 19th, and 20th November 2024 at the Agency's headquarters in Sarajevo and was led by an expert from Romania, Marian Necula.
This training is part of the activities outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding between the national statistical institutions of BiH and Romania, signed at the end of September this year. The training was attended by methodologists, sampling specialists, and domain statisticians from the Agency for Statistics of BiH, as well as representatives of entity-level institutes, who will actively use R in their daily work in the future.
The R program, known for its flexibility and wide range of capabilities, has become a standard in many European countries. Its application enables the development and implementation of advanced statistical methods, the design of representative samples, and the enhancement of complex processes for data processing, analysis, and visualisation. The R program is already successfully used in national statistical institutions in countries such as Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Norway.
Given that the application of the program significantly contributes to improving the reliability and quality of statistical results and ensures compliance with European standards, promoting R training is a key step in Eurostat’s efforts to expand its use to other countries.
The Agency for Statistics of BiH plans to organise additional training sessions for domestic experts, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening professional capacities and improving statistical methods.
