The pilot Census of Agriculture in Bosnia and Herzegovina will be conducted from October 15th to 30th

The purpose of the trial Census of Agriculture is that the statistical institutions check orsanisation, methodology, technical solutions of the electronic questionnaire, the application for control of material, the time required for briefing and enumeration of farms, with the aim of conducting the full Census of Agriculture as efficiently and qualitatively as possible.

The pilot census will cover 15,887 farms and households, which of 8,706 are in the Federation of BiH, 6,413 in the Republika Srpska and 768 in the Brčko District of BiH. The enumeration of farms in the field will be carried out by accredited and trained enumerators and controllers, using the interview method by directly entering data into an electronic questionnaire on a laptop.

The pilot Census of Agriculture collects data on the locations of agricultural farms, use of agricultural land for all crops, number of livestock by species and categories, rural indicators, data on labor force, ecological agriculture, irrigation, agro-environmental indicators, methods of agricultural production, etc.

The full Census of Agriculture, which is planned to be realized at the end of next year, is an immensely important statistical survey for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Firstly, because, it will provide quality data for analyzes of condition and potentials, first time after more than 60 years, as well as data for strategic planning of the development of the agriculture sector and rural development at all levels. The agriculture sector is one of the most important sectors of Bosnia and Herzegovina's economy, which accounts for about six to seven percent of BiH's GDP.

In addition, by conducting a full Census of Agriculture in accordance with international statistical standards, Bosnia and Herzegovina will fulfill one of the priority obligations within the framework of the Stabilization and Association Process and thus facilitate its path to the European Union.
